How a lesson works

  1. Get Ready
  2. Learn It
  3. See It
  4. Check It
  5. Try It Together
  6. Practice It
  7. Play It
  8. Show What You Know
  9. Prove It
  10. Next Step

Every lesson moves from teaching, to guided practice with hints, to independent work. As your child practices, each skill earns a mastery level: Masters, Meets, Approaches, or Not Yet Met. You see it all in the Parent Center.

Mastery levels

Each skill earns a level once your child has practiced it a few times. Levels look at accuracy, how much help was used, and practice over time, not just a percentage.

Masters, Meets, Approaches, and Not Yet Met are internal GC Academy levels based on practice in GC Academy. They are not official STAAR scores, and GC Academy is not affiliated with, approved by, or accredited by the Texas Education Agency.

Help right when they need it

When your child gets stuck, help comes in small steps, so she does as much of the thinking as she can.

  1. NudgeA small hint to get her thinking again.
  2. StrategyA way to solve it, like a model or a memory trick.
  3. Guided HelpStep-by-step help through the problem.

In the Parent Center, every answer is counted by the support used: on her own, or with a Nudge, a Strategy, or Guided Help.

Learning supports Hints, read-aloud, vocabulary help with pictures, sentence stems, bigger text, “Picture it” models, and one-step-at-a-time directions. These are general instructional supports. They do not replace an IEP, 504 Plan, language plan, or any required services. Please follow your child’s plan and talk with their teachers about what works best.

How we set kids up for success

Built on what really works

Aligned to TEKS and Common Core, grade by grade Skills are matched to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for each grade, with the matching Common Core standard noted, so practice lines up with what’s taught in Texas classrooms and in most other states. Reading, writing, and math skills build in the same order kids learn them in school, and every question is original.
Learning off the screen, too Kids don’t have to be glued to a computer. Print GC writing worksheets, graphic organizers, and memory-trick posters, plus coloring pages and Style Studio looks. Then grab a pencil for real writing projects like stories, letters, and opinion pieces kids plan and publish on paper. More hands-on activities and family projects are on the way.
Starts where your child isFind My Level places each child at the right starting point, so the work isn’t too easy or too hard.
Teach, practice, then do it on your ownShort lessons with examples come first, then guided practice with hints, then independent work and real writing.
Mastery, not just more worksheetsKids practice a skill until it’s strong, and mixed review brings earlier skills back so they stick.
Progress they can seeEvery skill is tracked as your child practices. Kids see stars, points, and badges; members see mastery levels and standards progress in the Parent Center.
Help right when they need it“Need a hint?” nudges, “Picture it” models, a scratch work space, read-aloud, and bigger text, so no child gets stuck and gives up.
A dictionary built into every storyKids tap any dotted word for a kid-friendly meaning, and the Word Finder helps them swap tired words for stronger ones.
Memory tricks that stickTeacher-tested tools like the hamburger paragraph, RACE for written answers, FANBOYS, ARMS & CUPS for revising and editing, and SPARKLE, plus printable graphic organizers.
Brain breaks & fun factsQuick brain breaks and fun facts, like stories about famous authors, keep minds fresh and make learning feel like discovery.
Safe by designNo ads, no chat, no public profiles. Kids use nicknames only. Free practice stays in the browser tab; members’ progress is saved privately to the family account for the Parent Center.
Faith woven inDaily Scripture and kindness challenges in GC Arcade, so learning about God is part of the fun.
