For grown-ups: how to use GC Bible Study at home
Make it a daily habit
Tie Bible time to something you already do, like breakfast or bedtime. Five to ten minutes is plenty: today’s Scripture Spark on busy days, and one story a week.
Say it, Explain it, Engage it
- Say it: read the verse out loud together.
- Explain it: ask your child to tell it back in their own words.
- Engage it: pick one takeaway and pray together.
Ask open-ended questions
Instead of quizzing facts, ask how a character felt, what the story shows about who God is, and where it shows up at school or at home. Every story ends with questions to get you started.
Make it hands-on
Act out the story, draw it, build it with blocks, or sing it. Each story has an “Act it out or draw it” idea.
Model it together
Let your kids see you read your own Bible, pray out loud, and talk about faith naturally as you practice kindness and forgiveness each day.
Story Bibles by age
- Ages 2–5: short picture Bibles such as The Jesus Storybook Bible (Sally Lloyd-Jones) or The Beginner’s Bible, plus bite-sized verses like “God is love.”
- Ages 6–9: activity Bibles such as the Hands-On Bible, using the Say it, Explain it, Engage it steps.
- Ages 10+: a kid-friendly translation such as the NIrV or NLT. A great first goal is reading through the Gospel of Luke.
Songs to sing together
- Classics: “Jesus Loves Me,” “This Little Light of Mine,” “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands,” and “Deep and Wide”
- Scripture memory and kids’ worship: Seeds Family Worship, Slugs & Bugs, Yancy, and Hillsong Kids
Talk together
